Kyoto is located in the Kansai region of Japan. This city is home to numerous temples, shrines and architectural treasures. Fushimi Inari-taisha is one of the famous shrines in Kyoto. The rows of torii gates, also known as Senbon torii, is the main highlight of the shrine. It is customary for people to donate a torii gate in order to express gratitude for a wish, or for a wish to become true. It takes approximately two hours to walk up the shrine as it has around 10,000 gates. Fushimi Inari-taisha was also featured in an iconic scene of a popular movie: Memoirs of a Geisha. For some quiet time away from the crowd, visit Kennin-ji Temple and Tofuku-ji Temple. These Zen temples offer spacious grounds, beautiful sub-temples, and views that you don’t get to see in your everyday life.
