Best Places To Stay In Langkawi: Top 8 Places With A Tropical Setting - Updated 2020

places to stay in langkawi

Langkawi is one of the islands located in the Andaman Sea, about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) away from peninsular Malaysia. The idyllic little island is most famous for its tropical settings, duty-free goods (especially imported alcohols and cigarettes, which are priced much lower here), local food, and historical landmarks. Among the island’s must-visit tourist attractions include Mahsuri’s Tomb, Burnt Rice Field, the Langkawi Cable Car (which goes atop the Mat Chinchang Mount), and Coco Valley Duty-Free Supermarket.

There are only about 96,000 inhabitants in the island, making Langkawi a crowd-free zone as well. The island can only be reached by air and sea. If you’re traveling by land in peninsular Malaysia, which is more cost-effective but time-consuming, there are four jetty points where you can head to and take a ferry ride all the way to Langkawi: Tamalang, Penang, Kuala Kedah, and Kuala Perlis. To reach Langkawi by air, any airport in Malaysia has direct flights to the island. If you prefer somewhere nice and quiet, and would love to stay at a place in a tropical setting, we have found the eight best places where you can enjoy living like the local:

1. The Datai (from USD 317)

Each room at The Datai features a living area with private balcony overlooking the tropical landscape, with bathrooms that are equipped with a bathtub and dressing area. The hotel’s award-winning spa is a must-try while you’re there! Other things you can do include mountain biking, swimming, golfing, and playing tennis.
