Trip101 has already shared insight into the exceptional and unusually located EV restaurant that is owned by the Tas Group and it is now time to share with you another Tas Group restaurant but this one is located in a prime place with a waterfront view. We now unveil a place that is perfect for either a quick drink and bite to eat or a full on multiple course dining extravaganza: Hazev, based at  Discovery Dock, South Quay Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 9RT.

A bar, restaurant and deli-style cafe

Hazev is on a pedestrianised quayside and is a few steps away from Canary Wharf and is reached by crossing the South Quay footbridge that connects Canary Wharf and South Quay. It is an establishment that consists of a bar, restaurant and a deli-style café.

The bar and the deli-style café include comfortable and beautifully designed armchairs and wooden tables making it feel like a rather fashionable Turkish home. The restaurant, however, is more luxurious and has a very lush and exclusive fine dining interior. Tables covered with white linen and opulent tableware that is fit for a wonderful occasion. The restrooms for the entire establishment are based within the restaurant and are worth a visit due to their gorgeous décor.

The bar can fit up to 100 guests; the deli-style café can accommodate 50 people and the restaurant is suitable for 150 people. Despite being enormous, Hazev has an eclectic and charming ambiance running throughout it and makes a visit anytime in the day a wonderful experience.

Enjoy the unique waterside location

From the bar, restaurant and deli-style café, you can see the attractive waterside location and the financial district. There are also some tables based outside the restaurant area in case you wish to drink and/or dine outside. In the outside area, there are also several exquisite plants, such as olive and pomegranate trees, which add to making a more unique environment amongst the busyness and the skyscrapers that are opposite.

During the summer time, it’s a fantastic place to sit outside and enjoy a cool breeze from the waters whereas during the winter time, it’s a pleasant place to sit inside and warm your heart. The service throughout Hazev embodies a Turkish delight: sweet and full of goodness. The servers are all welcoming, professional, polite and make visiting a joy.

Red lentil soup, borek, hellimli patates or mixed salad anyone?

the perfect place at any time of day is hazev restaurant, london | red lentil soup, borek, hellimli patates or mixed salad anyone?

The food at Hazev is similar to that at other Tas Group restaurants in that it is delectable Turkish cuisine. Whether you’re a carnivore, pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan or have multiple allergies, there will be something delicious for you to enjoy at Hazev. The menu in the restaurant is extensive and the choice of food also available in the café is in abundance.

Recommended dishes include the red lentil soup (for 6.45 GBP/9 USD); the borek which is filo pastry with feta cheese and fresh tomato (for 7.10 GBP/10 USD), the hellimli patates which is roasted potatoes sautéed with Turkish cheese, fresh tomatoes, chopped jalapenos and herbs (for 13.60 GBP/19 USD) and also the mixed salad topped with feta cheese (for 6.25 GBP/9 USD). If you eat in the restaurant rather than café, then you will be provided with complimentary Turkish bread, a yoghurt and mint dip and also some green and black olives.

The best chocolate cake ever for only 4.95 GBP/7 USD

The 13 desserts on the restaurant menu are a sight to behold and devour and we are excited to tell you about some of the options available. The baklava (for 4.95 GBP/7 USD) is flaky layers of phyllo covered with butter, honey and walnuts and is a delight to experience. The künefe (for 6.45 GBP/6 USD) is a tasty sweet cheese pastry that is made with phyllo and topped with walnuts or pistachio. The sütlaç (for 4.95 GBP/7 USD) is a heavenly, creamy rice pudding that is flavoured with rosewater and orange.

The stand out-out dessert, however, is the chocolate cake (for 4.95 GBP/7 USD). On the menu, this option does not necessarily entice one and has a rather understated description of, “layers of chocolate sponge filled with chocolate cream”. This is Hazev’s only downfall as it has not been honest with its guests about its chocolate cake and this is because the chocolate cake that it serves up is the best chocolate cake that any man or woman could consume. It’s rich, creamy, moist and served with some double cream and a mint. Whilst EV restaurant also offers a chocolate cake, it should be noted that it is not the same as the one at Hazev, which is completely and utterly unbeatable.

With Turkish desserts and sweets often being consumed between meals and as snacks, I would recommend that you consider popping into Hazev even if only to have something sweet (preferably the chocolate cake from the restaurant’s menu).

I am a London tour guide and my tours include talking about people who have shaped the city plus the many connected places such as Hampton Court Palace, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the commercial centre of the city: the City of London, and London’s world class museums and galleries. I have been guiding for 12 years. I am a licenced London Blue Badge Tour Guide, a City of London Guide, and a Westminster Guide. The reviews I receive from clients speak of their enjoyment from the local knowledge and the humour I bring to my tours. Born within sight of Hampton Court Palace, I am a Londoner and apart from 2 years in the Middle East, I have worked in this capital city all my business and tour guiding careers. I have travelled widely and I appreciate what appeals to visitors coming to London. I can tailor my tours to interest children. I guide couples, families and larger tour groups. I particularly enjoy visits to Westminster Abbey, where I also volunteer guiding students and children through its wonderful interior – on my tours you will hear about monarchs, why scientists and poets are remembered, the architecture and religious history. The Abbey is the story of England. Come on an engaging and fun tour with me. There is so much to show you !

Turkish cold and hot drinks, like ayran, on offer

turkish cold and hot drinks, like ayran, on offer

You will often find many Turkish people enjoying a cold or hot drink whilst relaxing and chatting away in the elegant establishment that is Hazev. This in itself should be a sign that Hazev offers truly authentic food and a wonderful ambiance.

From the cold drinks side, you can have fresh lemonade or orange juice (for 3.95 GBP/6 USD) if you want something to cool you down. If you’re keen to try a Turkish drink, then you may be interested in trying ayran (for 2.95 GBP/4 USD), which is a salted yoghurt drink or the salgam (for 2.95 GBP/4 USD), which is a fermented black carrot juice.

If you fancy a hot Turkish drink, then it will be no surprise that we recommend that you enjoy Turkish tea (for 1.75 GBP/2 USD) or Turkish coffee (for 2.95 GBP/4 USD). The hot chocolate (for 2.65 GBP/4 USD) is something special that always hits the spot, so if you have a sweet tooth, then this is the drink to go for.

Delightful gastronomy and a faultless experience

A visit to Hazev will result in delightful gastronomy in a beautiful environment with service that is consistently on point. You will notice the management team are often walking the floors to ensure that every guest has a memorable experience. We can assure you that you will have a faultless experience if you trust us and visit Hazev.

If you’re not sure if Turkish cuisine, nevertheless, is for you and/or you’re not fully convinced that this is a place to visit, we would recommend that you visit the deli-style café and get a take-away of some of the items in the counter including the freshly made bread to see if it awakens your taste-buds. If, however, you’re won over and ready to make a booking in the restaurant, we want to let you know that Hazev will give you a little complimentary sweet treat after your meal: some very delightful Turkish delights!
