This is a unique castle and architectural complex, close to the beach and the limestone rocks and views of Mount Bonifato and the Gulf of Castellammare, making this an authentic European beach getaway. The castle is a fortress, with stone walls and defense mechanisms, as well as underground tunnels, which connect it to other castles in the area. 2. Church of Jesus

This is a prominent church in Italy and has also been made famous by icons like Johnny Depp, the hippie liberal movement and the Italian mafia, as portrayed in movies. 3. Assumption Church

This is another of the churches in the area and gives an idea of Italian religious sentiment and how it is portrayed in a beach environment. The church is quite ancient and features paintings and frescoes by renowned painters, as well as columns of red marble, obtained from Mount Bonifato. There are also statues of religious leaders here and paintings of virgins, which make the Assumption Church a unique religious getaway from the beach area.

4. Centro Storico di Alcamo

This is a historic site, known as the preserved area of the Old Town, found in the city center. It is quite enchanting, with its narrow streets, traditional buildings, quaint architecture and, of course, the churches, which complete the scene and are featured alongside the car parks and modern hectic urban life. There is also a coastal lane that leads to the Gulf of Castellammare and a beautiful beach, with amazing water and traditional Italian food, in the nearby restaurants. 5. Piazza Ciulio

This is a historic square in the city, that features the Town Hall and some churches, as well as some restaurants and sandwich shops. Besides the churches, one can enjoy the ancient Arabian fountain and the narrow lanes, which lead away from the Piazza. There is also a sidewalk, from where one can view the gorgeous Alcamo Marina coastline and beach area. At sunset, it is the best place to head to admire the fascinating views and natural splendor, in a historic setting.

6. Alcamo Marina

This is the prominent beach area of Alcamo and features a golden sandy beach and a variety of accommodation and recreational amenities. There are also excavation sites, geological formations and fossil shells, which feel a bit “Pirates of the Caribbean” and lend some information about the areas past. There are also sea lily plants and sand dunes on the beach, as well as some nearby interesting towns, with medieval architecture and even temples, amphitheaters and concerts, for the hip crowd.

7. Augustali Farms


Augustali Farms is a farm area, near a beautiful nature reserve and one can even go to nearby islands from here. This is a great family holiday destination, for people with kids. Games on the lawn and playgrounds are offered here, as well as traditional Italian food specialties, like cheese and honey, for an authentic Italian village experience and getaway. There is also a lot of grass to relax on and it’s a detached and authentic rural experience, in the coziness of the area.

8. Terrasini Beach

This is another beach destination in the Alcamo area and features red rocks in the Red Bay area and a natural reserve in the Capo Rama area. There are also cliffs, jutting above the beach and watchtowers, along the coast. There are also archaeological and anthropological museums in the area, as well as festivals and theatre and concert performances, throughout the town.

The beach is located near Palermo and between the mountains and the Gulf of Castellammare and can be reached easily from Palermo International Airport, which is also the main airport serving the Alcamo area.
