A military base is often seen as a vital element of a country’s safety and protection and holds military equipment and personnel, as well as facilitates training and operations. The US established such a base, here, now known as the Clark Freeport Zone, that was in operation from 1903-1991. Located 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Angeles and about 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Metro Manila, it can be reached within an hour from Manila, via the North Expressway.

Formerly the largest overseas US airbase, by far, the area is easy to access. According to a certain write up about the Clark Freeport Zone, the Philippines has a lot of well-kept secrets. These are so-called special zones, referring to the industrial, economic and freeport zones that do not allow straight out purchasing of land. Instead, they encourage a 25 to 50-year lease of property, alongside special tax and investment incentives that the government offers, that are often less enticing to locals. Because of this, a lot of foreigners have taken over and invested in the place, making it look like an international area.

6. Get that souvenir

Apu Market

Posted by Marlon Mullon Photography - Let's Make Memories on Friday, 21 June 2013

A journey, much like water in a river, never passes the same way, again. Every place you visit contains something that will be a memory, later, so take with you something that will allow you to reminisce about the journey that you once had. Clark celebrates the Apu Festival, usually held in October, in honor of Christ. But another type of festival happens every Friday in this area.

The Apu Street Market features cheap clothing, furniture and a display of handicrafts and home decor, which are a sight to feast on. The rule of the game is to bargain, with a smile! Shop around and find the average price of items and then grab your favorite item at a surprisingly cheap price, at the Apu Street Market.

We can all take pleasure in finding new places that offer a certain level or challenge of things that we never expect to see. At Nayong Pilipino, you can visit the whole Philippines, in once place! Check out the various land and water forms of the three big islands and the characters who are present in the most famous folk tales of the country, including “Si Malakas at si Maganda.” Or perhaps you are more interested in the replicas of historical revolutions that took place in the country. It can all be seen here, in this 45 acre (18.2 hectare) amusement park.

As they say, you learn much from things if all senses are involved, so why not take a wild ride with ATV Petrohead Inc. and explore the Potrero River, by land on an All Terrain Vehicle! At about PHP 2500 (USD 50.28), this trip is a bit pricey but it is well worth the adventure. After you take a dirty and challenging ride, trek the steep road that leads right to Miyamit Falls. It is best to see Miyamit during rainy days, but it’s also a bit dangerous. You can enjoy the mini pools here and take a cold plunge into the 10-15 meter (33-50 feet) deep water. Whatever you choose to do, unleash the conqueror within you.
