1. Explore the medical history of the American Civil War at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine

The Civil War was a defining moment in the country’s history. During the war, wounded soldiers in the nearby battlefield were sent to Frederick for medical attention. Frederick thus became one vast hospital as nearly every building, home, and the church was turned into a makeshift hospital to help take care of the wounded. As such, by the time the war was ending, the city had a decent collection of Civil War Medical artifacts, and it was only befitting that there be a museum to preserve and tell the story to future generations. Inside the museum, you will see a collection of the various Civil War medicine artifacts, learn about the medical techniques that were used to take care of the wounded soldiers, and listen to the horror stories about the war and the bravery of the both men and women who risked it all to take care of the wounded.
