Evelyn’s Park is quite new and boasts a cafe called the Ivy & James. It’s in a pleasant corner of the park where you can grab a coffee or a meal. This fun place in Houston is all about nature, and while small, there’s slides and the little ones can dig for ‘treasure.’
There’s a wall that commemorates the donors and children have fun deciphering some of the messages on the bright structure decorated with butterflies and beetles. Large lawns provide lots of space for the children to run around and play. The park also offers a selection of events through the year.

15. Visit the horses at the Houston Police Department
Did you know that you can pay a visit to the horses at the Houston Police Department? They are open from Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 2 pm. Bigger parties and groups can call and arrange times as well. Visitors may enter the barn, which is a state of the art facility.
Visitors may take treats for the horses as well. Carrots and apples are accepted, but only two per horse. Leftovers are kept for the horses to eat later. You need to sign a waiver indemnity and enter at your own risk.

The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation Boulevard is one of Houston’s biggest names when it comes to the culinary world. If you enjoy Mexican cuisine, this is a restaurant that you don’t want to skip. Take time to explore the natural beauty of White Oak Bayou which is part of the Houston Parks Board’s Bayou Greenways initiative. The White Oak Bayou Greenway trail intersects with the beloved Houston Heights Hike and Bike Trail three times, passing through the historic Heights and Woodland Heights communities. At the intersection of White Oak Bayou Greenway and the Heights Hike and Bike Trail, you will also find beautiful Bayou Greenways Park.
At 1.47 acres (0.59 hectares), the park is framed by woodland on the southwest and a majestic line of sycamore trees along the northeast, with a broad grass knoll that rises gently to a height of more than 50 feet (15.24 meters) above the nearby White Oak Bayou channel. This high prospect offers dramatic views of the Houston skyline and the surrounding landscape.
If you stop by White Oak Bayou in the evening, you’ll want to include a trip to Watonga Parkway Park. It’s home to one of Houston’s largest bat roosts! There are so many fun activities the whole family can enjoy during an outing to White Oak Bayou.
