Who would have thought that treehouses still exist in an urban jungle like Singapore? The exclusive TreeTop Loft in Sentosa is one of Singapore’s most well-kept secrets, where travellers get to wake up to the sound of birds chirping and a lush green view. With only 2 such treehouses, a tranquil night’s stay at the TreeTop Loft is an exclusive experience that offers you not only privacy, but bragging rights to friends who most probably do not know it exists.

Built 12 metres above ground

The treehouses are built 7 metres and 12 metres above ground.

Situated in Singapore’s top tourist attraction Sentosa, the TreeTop Loft is a short walk away from Equarius Hotel but guests get free buggy rides to and from the loft. The TreeTop Loft consists of 2 one-bedroom suites named Angsana and Tembusu - two very common trees found in Singapore - each nestled in a canopy of trees and built 7 metres and 12 metres above the ground respectively. This is an “atas” (Singapore’s local slang for upscale) treehouse, which comes with your own huge terrace, 24-hour butler service, exclusive access to swimming pools in Beach Villa, and 5-star worthy luxurious furnishings and amenities.

A huge terrace within the canopy of trees

The huge terrace amidst the canopy of trees.

The TreeTop Loft’s location, away from the casino, monorail and Universal Studios, makes it an ideal location for families or couples hoping for a good rest after a long day at the Sentosa attractions. With its wooden boardwalks, high ceilings, and rooms that open up to a huge outdoor terrace that is 96 to 98 square metres (1033 to 1055 square feet) in size, it creates a sense of space and serenity in nature. For nature lovers, the huge terrace is a dream come true. You can enjoy your own al fresco dining on the terrace, where you can watch the cable cars slowly move in the fading sunset. You can read a book in the comfort of the reclining chairs on the terrace without disturbance. You can lie on the wooden floor at night to gaze at the stars. In fact, the terrace is so big that you can easily invite your friends over for a get-together.

An air-conditioned living room that opens up to a terrace on both sides

The brightly lit living room.

For those who are scared of mosquitoes outside (although insect-repellent sprays are provided), you can snuggle up on the sofa in the living room and treat yourself to a wide collection of the latest movies on the plasma TV, with the air-con on full blast. The living room is brightly lit by the natural light coming in from the outdoor terrace, however, if it is too bright for you, just click on the remote control button and draw the curtains without leaving your comfortable position on the sofa. When your eyes get tired from watching TV, just take a few steps away from your sofa and you will reach the outdoor terrace, where you can immerse yourself in the green surroundings.

A huge bathroom with an assortment of bath salts

The bathroom is big and comes with a separate shower area and bath tub.

The bathroom is very spacious and is about the size of a small bedroom. It comes with a separate bathtub and shower area. The bathroom is well-stocked with ESPA (Resorts World Sentosa’s own spa line) shower gels and bath salts, which makes showering or bathing a luxurious indulgence. Sprinkle the bath salts in the bathtub, submerge yourself in the hot water, take in the heady scent of the nutmeg and ginger essential oils, and there you have it - your own spa experience in the bathroom.

A restful sleep in the four-poster bed

treetop loft: stay in a treehouse in urban singapore | a restful sleep in the four-poster bed

I’ve always loved four-poster beds, and it is plain luxury sleeping on the huge bed with soft goose feather pillows after a hot shower. With the bed facing the outdoor terrace, it means that the first sight that greets your eyes in the morning would be the greenery, which is quite a refreshing experience. However, strangely enough, the bedroom doesn’t come with mirrors, which makes it a bit inconvenient for women who prefer to apply their creams and toners in the bedroom while scrutinising their faces in the mirror. The bedroom is pretty basic, with simply a desk, bedside tables, lamps, and the huge bed. Nevertheless, this also means that all that awaits you when you enter the bedroom would be just the inviting bed, beckoning you over for a restful sleep.

A getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life

The TreeTop Loft is a perfect getaway from the urban city life. It gives you a sense of staying in a treehouse, but minus all the possible discomfort. The design is such that you really feel that you are in a world of your own, a world which you don’t feel like leaving. However, such a unique stay also comes with a hefty premium that starts at about 2000 SGD (about 1400 USD) per night, which is a few times higher than a typical 5-star hotel stay. It would not be worthwhile if you are away from the loft most of the time and only back for the night’s sleep. It is indeed a good accommodation experience, but I feel that this should be a given with the hefty price tag. I would say go for it only if you can afford it, and if you are looking for a memorable unique stay. The TreeTop Loft is a surreal getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, which allows you to embrace living in nature.
