Good to know:

1. Jaipur

Best for: History and culture buffs

The capital city of the Rajasthan state, Jaipur is one of the destinations in India to visit on your short tour from Delhi if you’re a big fan of history and culture. It’s a desert city overflowing with folktales and fascinating architecture. There are a lot of lovely places you can visit in Jaipur. Some of them include Jantar Mantar, which used to be an observatory, Hawa Mahal, with its numerous windows, and the historic Jaigarh Fort. You can take stunning pictures while appreciating the beauty of each. Of course, you shouldn’t miss the beautiful over-water palace known as Jal Mahal. If you want to see something magical, the best time to visit the palace is at night, when tons of lights illuminate the city.

2. Rishikesh and Haridwar

Best for: Nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, culture enthusiasts

When it comes to nature trip or meditation, the best cities to visit are Haridwar and Rishikesh in the Garhwal region. A lot of tourists go to Haridwar to study yoga and to visit temples. Another excellent destination near Haridwar is Rishikesh. It’s surrounding nature is astounding; something you should see for yourself. Both the cities are alcohol-free as they are considered to be the holy places. Apart from that, these two destinations also boast a wide variety of gastronomic food that will make your mouth water. The best part? All food offered is affordable and will suit people of different tastes.

Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat, Rishikesh Beatles Ashram, Rishikesh Harry's Cafe, Laxman Jhula

When I'm wandering through Haridwar, taking that sacred dip in the Ganges is always on my list. Post dip, there's this spot I find myself drawn to every time – Choti Wala Restaurant. It's got this homey vibe, not too fancy, just right. You've got to try the Choley Bhature and Lassi there, trust me, it's a meal that never disappoints and it's pretty affordable too, sets you back just about 200 INR.

Moving to Rishikesh, I always make time for the Beatles Ashram. It's this mix of peace and pop culture, walls decked in graffiti that just beg for a photo. Then there's the Ganga Aarti in the evenings. Either at Parmarth Niketan or Triveni Ghat, it's a family tradition, feels like a warm embrace from the city itself. And if your stomach starts growling, Harry's Cafe by Laxman Jhula is the place.

3. Mathura and Vrindavan

Best for: Lord Krishna devotees, culture enthusiasts

While to people from the big cities, Mathura and Vrindavan are just the same; however, it is not right. They are different cities close to one another. Mathura is famous for being the birthplace of Lord Krishna, while Vrindavan is the place where Lord Krishna grew up. When it comes to a spiritual destination, these two charming cities should be on the top of your list. Dotted with various temples and meditating spots, the solace and peace that you sought is within your reach. Some of the temples to visit are Dwarkadhish temple, Gita Mandir, and Kesava Deo temple.

4. Neemrana Fort Palace

Best for: Thrill seekers, families, couples

If it’s an adventure you’re after, there’s no better place than Neemrana Fort Palace. There are tons of fun things to experience in this place, ranging from relaxing to thrilling ones. To get that adrenaline rush, a ride on India’s first-ever zipline is a must. It’s an aerial adventure, where you can enjoy the feeling of being on top of the world and witness the majestic views of Neemrana Fort Palace from above. On the other hand, if you’re traveling with family and are only looking for relaxation and fun, Neemrana also offers Masti Mahal, a place where the children can play while you get some rest. Its hanging garden is another bonus.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Rashtrapati Bhavan

If you’re ever in New Delhi and find yourself yearning for an adventure, do what I often do—go for an early morning bike ride to India Gate. It's serene at dawn, with the city slowly waking up. Rent a cycle or an e-bike from a metro station; it’s super easy. As you pedal down Kartavya Path, the lush gardens come alive with the first light, and the grand Rashtrapati Bhavan in the distance is a sight to behold. Trust me, there's no better way to feel the pulse of the city while soaking in its historic beauty. It’s my go-to for a quick escape and a bit of exercise.

25. Marvel at Delhi's Mughal heritage on this seven-hour tour

Isa Khan's Tomb

After the colossal tomb of Humayun, the most stunning structure in Humayun's Tomb Complex has to be the tomb of Isa Khan. I visited the complex at dawn, and Isa Khan's Tomb, which is closer to the complex entrance, incidentally delayed me for the sunrise at Humayun's Tomb. That being said, the complex, along with its several structures, made for an outstanding experience.

26. Traverse the religious spectacles with your own private guide

Best for: Culture buffs, photographers, families, couples, solo travelers

We’ve all been there. You want the knowledge that a tour guide gives you, but you’d rather not be a face in the crowd among dozens of fellow tourists. Well, this private tour will enable you to enjoy the Akshardham Temple and some of Delhi’s other spiritual sites without having to vie for attention with fellow travellers. This private tour - which lasts for six hours, will teach you a little about India’s rich religious backdrop and take you on such varied attractions as a 3D theatre and a boat ride. You’ll also get to visit the likes of Chattarpur Temple - India’s second largest temple complex - as well as enjoy stops at the modern Lotus Temple and Hare Krishna’s ISKCON temple. A hotel pick-up and drop-off service provide added convenience to your exploration.

27. Mangar

Occasionally, I enjoy visiting organic farms to purchase fresh produce. It’s a leisurely weekend activity which we enjoy as a family. After a long two-hour drive from Delhi to the tranquil destination known as Mangar, you can find numerous organic farms offering their organically grown vegetables for sale. The location is nestled within a forest, making the entire drive exceptionally scenic. Additionally, you’ll find accommodations like The Lalit Mangar and Camp Wild, offering exciting adventure and rock sports activities. The specific farm I frequent for my vegetable shopping is DN Kitchen and Garden. TIP: If you’re in the National Capital Region of Delhi and craving fresh organic produce, consider exploring the farms in Mangar.
