As the first capital of Siam from 1238 to 1438, Sukhothai was the cradle of Thai civilization and fittingly the birthplace of its architecture, language, and art. So, it’s only right that UNESCO declared it as a World Heritage City even if it received a smaller number of visitors than the more popular Ayutthaya. But if you look closer, Sukhothai is more nuanced in the stories that it tells its travelers. Even its name translating to “dawn of happiness” has a romantic leaning to it. Most of the historical sights are in one area in the Sukhothai Historical Park. But apart from the park itself, the rest of the city gives you a nice picture of what rural life in Thailand is with all its charming backstreets and little markets. You can relish Sukhothai in three to four days. Read on to find out a few options for you if you’re wondering where to stay in Sukhothai, Thailand.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on April 04, 2024.

1. Sawasdee Sukhothai Resort (from USD 30)

Featuring a luxurious king bed that you can just sink into the whole day, the Sawasdee Sukhothai Resort is a beautiful display of Thai culture meant especially for honeymooners and small, new families. It has a large pool, a shared lounge, and a children’s playground for the little ones. The most stunning feature of the resort are definitely its Thai bungalows with a sun terrace that opens up to the pool or to a garden view. Each bungalow is designed with hardwood dominating the furniture and walls with the bed as its centerpiece, draped in pristine white with a muslin coverlet that makes you feel like royalty. The bungalow is also equipped with everything one might need to make his or her stay a genuine staycation. You have your flatscreen TV, a minifridge, kettle, shower and desk with a sitting area that allow you to relax. Find also little trinkets of Thailand’s national animal, the elephant, plastered as cute accents and furnishing in your room and althroughout the resort.

This split-roof tropical house might as well be in California or Florida. It could very well be your morning routine to just wake up and take a quick dip to invigorate your system. But more than the pool, stay here for the staff who are trained to arrange everything from transportation to tours for its visitors, which is extremely helpful because, like the rest of Thailand, very few are English speakers.
