In Kolkata, the name Arsalan is synonymous with biryani. I have been a fan ever since I can remember. Most of the family outings have happened here and the place serves the best Mughlai cuisine catered to suit the palate of the Indian crowd. Being a lover of kebabs, I am sure to dig into their chicken achari kebab whenever I visit. I also recommend the murgh mussallam along with mutton biryani - a phenomenal combo if you ask me! Can't get any better for foodies.

Again, with multiple sites across Kolkata, we’re sure that you’ll stumble upon Oudh 1590. This is so much more than simply another restaurant with good biryanis. The experience here is aimed to transport you back in time to 1590 to enjoy traditional Oudh cuisine. This is your chance to enjoy ‘period dining.’ First on your list should be the authentic awadhi biryani. For something a bit extra-special, head to Oudh 1590 and you won’t be left hungry or disappointed. You might also want to check out some of the best rooftop restaurants in Kolkata while you are polishing off the aromatic Oudh Biryani, for your next food coma.

Opening hours: 12pm - 3.30pm, 6.30pm - 10.30pm (daily)
Tip from Trip101 local expert
What I most love about Oudh 1590 is its old-world charm. Not only is the architecture reminiscent of 16th-century India, but the music that plays inside the restaurant will also take you back in time. I enjoy listening to the exquisite 'thumri' music while relishing my favorite dish - moti biriyani. This type of biriyani contains meatballs made of minced mutton and is cooked with lots of aromatic spices. If you prefer a milder taste, try the comforting Kolkata biriyani. I also love their mutton kakori kebabs, which absolutely melt in my mouth! Another highlight of this restaurant is its ideal location in Vivekananda Park. This neighborhood is easily accessible by bus or cab and is quite safe too. It's steps away from the namesake Vivekananda Park, where you can spend some idle moments with your friends or lover. You may also explore the pleasant walkable lanes and stop for a movie at Lake Mall, only a five-minute walk away.
Tip from Trip101 local expert
Oudh 1590 is my go-to place whenever there is a special occasion that calls for celebration. I am so much in love with the food here that my favorite order is bookmarked on my food app as well. The signature dish of the Nawabi-style restaurant is its handi biryani. This one is served in an earthen pot after cooking aromatic rice with chicken pieces in a dum-pukht method. If you like your food to be spicy as I do, you can pair your biryani with mutton keema kaleji, which is minced mutton liver cooked in hot Indian spices. Do also try the Nargisi Mutton Kofta - the authentic flavors always transport me to Hyderabad in my mind while I sit and relish it in Kolkata.

Alongside the biryani be sure to order the finger-licking-good chicken rolls.

Tip from Trip101 local expert
If you have already savored the delightful flavors from different corners of the city, it is time to get sinful with the aromatic biryani from the house of Kabuliwala (a chain with multiple outlets across the city). This is a considerably new name among the ones you have already read about. However, with its distinguished taste and incredible branding, Kabuliwala is here to stay. You will love the dish being served in an earthen pot (haandi) along with a complimentary burhani (spicy yogurt-based drink to go with it), also served in a small clay glass that comes as a whole package. A complete experience I must say!
