3. Dada Boudir Hotel Restaurant
The space itself might be compact but what better way to meet the locals? The portion sizes are large, the price is good and the food is absolutely excellent. You’ll be licking your fingers clean with every meal. In fact, you’ll soon discover that Dada Boudir Hotel Restaurant is famous for its biryani. Unsurprisingly it gets very busy so expect to wait, but believe us when we say that it is worth the wait.

Less of a restaurant more of dining at someone’s house, just one chef personally cooks and delivers all of the food to you. You should expect friendly service and plenty of time for chatting and laughing. The owner is an incredible woman and is even related to royalty. Not only will you enjoy delicious food, but you’re sure to learn a lot and have one of your most enjoyable experiences in Kolkata. Be sure to book a seat at least two weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.

What once started as a tiny eatery has known grown to be very popular in the surrounding areas. You can expect it to be packed-out during the office lunchtime hours. Don’t let that put you off though as the menu and modern facilities make Rahmani a great spot to enjoy some classic biryani. Be sure to team it with the chicken chaap to set your tastebuds alight.

This is much more of a ‘restaurant’ in terms of what a westerner would expect. With an extensive menu, we’re sure you’ll find something to suit your tastes. But, by far the best way to enjoy a meal at India Restaurant is to order a variety of items and share them. Be sure to include the kachi biryani on your food order.

7. Haan ‘D’ Biryani
If you want to enjoy the true taste of biryani but are worried about the calories then head to Haan ’D’ Biryani restaurant. The lowest fat recipe is the delicious chicken biryani with the mutton biryani following a close second. Don’t worry though, it may be much less fat but it’s the same great taste! Founded in 2011, this eatery has already gained a strong following, why not join them?

8. Haji Saheb
This restaurant is in a great spot and offers a wide menu of traditional kebabs and meals. It also opens till late so is ideal for midnight cravings. The food is fresh, the staff is polite and you are sure a very friendly welcoming experience. Expect to leave with a fully satisfied tum. The pan-fried fish is particularly popular here, although you can’t go wrong with the traditional biryani options.

Again, with multiple sites across Kolkata, we’re sure that you’ll stumble upon Oudh 1590. This is so much more than simply another restaurant with good biryanis.
