Don't forget to visit Tangra, one of Kolkata's two Chinatowns, while you are staying here. Just a 10-minute drive from the hotel, this Chinese settlement was established in 1910. This neighborhood is especially known for the local eateries serving delectable Chinese-Indian dishes. Some of my personal favorites are Golden Joy Restaurant and Ah Leung. While the first one is well-known among Kolkatans, the second one is smaller and less popular. But, if you want to try unique fares such as 'Singara Chow' (steamed pork wontons with noodles) and mouthwatering chilly pork, Ah Leung is the place to go.

One of the best places to stay in the city, especially if you are a foodie! The hotel is minutes away from some of the best restaurants such as Beijing Restaurant, Big Boss Restaurant, and Golden Joy Restaurant in Tangra, which is Kolkata's very own Chinatown. I will recommend Golden Joy for a casual dinner with friends, or even when you are on a romantic date with your partner. One of my favorite places near this hotel is Science City. I still remember the make-believe experience of going deep inside a pyramid via the motion simulator 'time machine' as a school kid. The Fulldome 3D Digital Theater shows films on different topics in natural sciences. A must-visit while staying here is the Zoological Garden, Alipore. It is a major crowd-puller in winter, especially for families with kids. I remember visiting the zoo with my grandmother, aunts, and cousins during winter vacation. Once you have met the residents of the zoo, such as the Bengal tiger, the fishing cats, the giraffes, the sloth bear, different kinds of deer, the colorful birds, and the reptiles, you can head to the restaurant for some refreshments. The hotel is only a leisurely stroll away from Victoria Memorial. Some of my fondest memories when I was a child are about family trips to Maidan and the iconic Victoria Memorial. The vast expanse of Maidan is bustling with young couples on dates, boys playing cricket and football, families enjoying picnics and horse rides, and locals jogging and doing their morning walks. After having spent some time here with cousins, we used to head to the nearby St. Paul's Cathedral and pray at the evening mass. Sitting by the banks of the Hooghly River while watching the sun go down on the city, is a spectacular experience. Just so you know, this resort is actually not within Kolkata but a comfortable 1-hour drive away. I've stayed at their property and the arrangements are pretty decent. It's quite economical if you're a big group and you're hiring their 2-3-bedroom villas. We'd taken the one with a private pool. Aside from the fact that the pool wasn't very clean, it's a value-for-money destination if you're looking to chill with your friends or family for a couple of days. They position themselves as a 'spa resort', so they exude a wellness vibe. But apart from a wholesome range of spa packages, they also have a big communal pool, sports arena and outdoor activities for your entertainment.

This hotel is my personal favorite in terms of its structure and location, even though I haven't stayed here. This is one of the oldest luxury heritage hotels in Kolkata that opened its gates in 1888. Located in New Market Area, it'll put you in a very advantageous spot if you're keen to explore old local markets. New Market is right next door that is a shopper's haven. It has everything from branded shops to old local shops selling clothes, silver jewelry, shoes, and bakery goods. Nahoum & Sons, is especially famous for their brownies, patties, rolls, breads, etc., and people queue outside this 120-year-old family-run business to buy their goodies.
