Fort Aguada is located on Aguada-Siolim Road, in Candolim, Goa. You have two ways you can reach the hilltop fort. If you are going by car, you can take the 4 kilometer (2.5 mile) long road, from Sinquerim Beach. Another way, if you want to enjoy the beauty in the area, is to take the shorter footpath. Keep in mind that this way is a steep climb. The Aguada Fort was built by the Portuguese, in 1612, to ward off attacks from the Dutch and the Marathas. It is named for the fresh water spring which gave the fort its supply of drinkable water. The word “agua” means water in Portuguese and “Aguada” is the place where water is collected.

The remains of the 17th-century fort in Sinquerim Beach offer mind-boggling views of the ever-lovely Arabian Sea, whose waves make a pleasant sound as they crash against the rocks of the fort.

The lower fort kind of gives Santorini-like feels with the blues of the seas complimenting the white cross on the fort. We recommend an early morning visit here, as crowds start growing here as the day progresses.
