The idea behind the name: Trip GG Hostel

Trip GG Hostel is a considerably new hostel in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and was established in August 2015. The name ‘Trip GG’ is quite unique for a hostel and was actually inspired by the Chinese name, 旅聚居青年旅館. In Chinese, the character 旅 (lǚ) means to travel or take a trip, and the characters 聚居 when read together are jìjū and sounds similar to the letter ‘G’. Therefore, the hostel’s English name is Trip GG Hostel, cute, right?

What is offered?

Although Trip GG is a relatively new hostel, the services and amenities won’t give it away. The hostel is equipped with a kitchen, complete with all the utensils to cook, laundry service, shared computer, and a lounge that serves as a dining area as well. Obviously the setting is still very simple and there aren’t that many decorations, yet. However, if you decide to stay at this hostel, you will see that the staff is both kind and professional and the services and amenities are what you would expect from a well-established hostel.

The rooms at Trip GG are mainly divided into two: private and dorm rooms. The private rooms serve well as a single or double room. Both types of rooms are designed in a minimalist way. Dorm rooms are divided into female and male dorm rooms, and one mixed dormitory room. Beds in the dorms are equipped with a socket, night light, and curtains to maintain privacy of each guest. Lockers are also available for luggage storage.

A lounge with a view

One of Trip GG’s most loved features is the large and comfortable common area. Put together with a minimal design, the lounge is completed perfectly with the view of the famous Formosa Boulevard of Kaohsiung City. Many guests love to hangout at this lounge while enjoying their lunch or refreshing drinks, while others open their notebooks and begin to do work or talk with their loved ones that are overseas. In the end, whether it is to relax, socialize, or work, the lounge is there for everyone to enjoy.

How to get there?

Trip GG Hostel is located in one of the most convenient areas in Kaohsiung, which is the Formosa Boulevard. Formosa Boulevard MRT station is the intersection of two MRT lines in Kaohsiung, the orange and red line. Therefore, travelers can very easily get access to public transportation to explore the city of Kaohsiung. Surrounding the hostel are different kinds of small food stalls and also convenient stores, where travelers can easily buy food and necessities at any given time. Let’s also not forget that the famous Liuohe Night Market is just a 3-minutes walk from the hostel.

Getting to Trip GG Hostel is super easy. Since the airports and train stations have their own MRT station, travelers can just hop on the MRT and get down at Formosa Boulevard station. Once there, head to Exit 1 and the hostel sign should be on the west. At first, the signs may not be very obvious since the hostel is located on the sixth floor of another building, so be sure to enter the right one. Upon entering, head straight to the elevator. Once you are at the sixth floor, you will be greeted by the Trip GG Hostel logo.
