Not so long ago, coffee began to occupy an important part of the city routine, and Baku is not an exception. As a big coffee lover, I managed to visit a majority of the best spots where you can enjoy not only a perfect cup of coffee but also feel the unique atmosphere of Baku. I’ve gone ahead and curated this guide where you will not only find information about what coffee to get in which shop, but also where it is better to stay and enjoy your leisure time in Baku’s coffee shops, So scroll down for the best coffee shops in Baku, Azerbaijan, for great choices.

1. CoffeeBar

I would say I can call this coffee shop my place of power. The wonderful staff who work here and its perfect location coupled with delicious coffee suitable for every taste and a wide selection of coffee, desserts, and breakfast make the property truly amazing. Starting with the location, I should note that CoffeeBar has two branches: one on Khagani Street and another in Rasulzade. Both branches of this coffee shop are conveniently located in the city center. However, I spent the majority of my time at the cafe at Rasulzade since I already know all the baristas there. There is a lot of traffic here, which means it is always lively and there is no time to get bored.

The interiors of both branches of the coffee shop are unique and are filled with carpets displaying portraits of Keanu Reeves and Tupac. Original Star Wars posters, hand-painted surfboards, and a lot of mirrors figure in its decor. At the checkout, you can find a Baby Yoda toy, stickers from your favorite films and cartoons, and a lot of coffee gear. In both locations, the seats are divided into smoking and non-smoking areas, so you don’t have to go outside while smoking. If you still want to bask in the sun or just breathe fresh air, then you can head to the terrace with an awning, which is available in both branches.

The coffee itself is one of the best in the city. Anything will be prepared for you, from black specialty coffee to milk coffee and various lemonades. If you are still hungry, you can order breakfast, sweets, and even salads or wraps. The most delicious in my opinion are syrniki with salted caramel, so if you see me eating them in one of the spots, don’t be surprised.

Now, let’s finally go into detail about coffee. This place has its own roastery, so feel free to try their roasted grains. If you want to buy a pack for yourself, note that you cannot buy them in the coffee shop itself. However, you are more than welcome to visit the CoffeeBar roastery where you can grab some fresh-packed beans. I was delighted with how beautiful and original the roastery looked. Another interesting fact: don’t be surprised if your specialty coffee in CoffeeBar is brought in a teapot and served with traditional Azerbaijani glasses, armudu. Such a creative solution is ideal for your coffee, because thanks to the armudu’s shape, your coffee will not have time to cool quickly, which means you can savor all its possible tastes.

2. United Coffee Beans

It seems that these guys were one of the first specialty coffee houses in Baku because my journey into the world of coffee began with them. United Coffee Beans is famous for its huge selection of coffee, coffee drinks, and unique locations. This place is not just a coffee shop but also a roastery. Let’s go in order!

The range of coffee beans at United Coffee Beans changes every couple of months, which allows visitors to try many different variations. Here you can find coffee from Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, Costa Rica, and other areas. My favorites are the varieties from Costa Rica and Colombia in washed processing, and I highly recommend them. There are coffee containers by weight next to the bar, so I often like to take a few different beans to try each variant. This is ideal if you like making coffee at home. If you have already managed to find your favorite coffee or want to choose a coffee variety as a gift, then you can also take ready-made vacuum packages with beans, which are priced at 20 AZN (11.73 USD) per 250 grams (0.55 pounds).

The staff is very qualified, so if you are confused and cannot choose a coffee, they will be glad to help you and explain all they know. I love spending my time talking about coffee with local baristas. In addition, these guys often participate in world coffee championships, so you can trust them.

If you don’t like pure coffee such as Chemex or Aeropress, then you can always order milk coffee or some coffee-based drinks and various lemonades. In the coffee shop you can order cheesecakes, pies, and cakes, and if you are feeling really hungry, then feel free to choose bagels or full salads and dishes.

Local freelancers love this place, so if you would like to spend time with a laptop, feel free to come here. I spend time here while working, or meeting with friends, and it’s my favorite place to meet new people and talk about a variety of topics.

United Coffee Beans has two branches and both are in the center of Baku. The one located on Khagani Street is smaller and it’s usually calmer here. The larger branch located on Yusif Mammadaliyev Street has more seats, two floors, and even a beautiful balcony overlooking the narrow streets of Baku.

3. Sensum Coffee

Sensum Coffee is another must-see location for specialty coffee lovers and is located not too far from Baku’s center. It is my strong recommendation that you visit the cafe, not only because of the high quality of products available but also because it is an incredibly beautiful spot.

Sensum is more than just a coffee shop; it is a showroom, a coffee academy with a methodology based on SCA Coffee Standards, a florist shop, and even a photo studio. In general, it’s a type of artsy space where I can spend most of my time.

Take a stroll through the building if you enjoy not only coffee but also creativity in all of its forms as much as I do. The specialty here is not only the coffee but also the staff’s attitude to the customers. Local specialists with certifications are ready to recommend the best coffee options for your taste and mood.

It is worth noting that Sensum includes not only the offerings listed above but also a roastery. The specialists from this spot can track the acquisition of beans, starting directly from the farms. You can observe the process while drinking your coffee because the roastery is right next to the coffee shop and is open to the public. It is, without a doubt, an enthralling process.

4. Baristica Coffee Roastery

Opened in 2021, the coffee shop and roastery have already managed to win the hearts of locals, including mine. Its pleasant location, large and insanely stylish spot, large selection of coffees and beans, and pleasant staff are reasons enough.

The coffee house is in the very center of the city, not too far from the main street of Baku: Nizami Street. There are a lot of seats, but my favorite spot is a small table by the window overlooking the street. If you’re there, be sure to choose this place to watch people passing by.

The staff of the coffee shop never ceases to please and sympathetic and experienced baristas will talk with you about your favorite coffee and help you choose something new to try. In case you decide to delve into the realm of coffee, you’ll be pleased to find that coffee equipment is sold here, including coffee grinders, AeroPress, kettles, and much more. You can even buy their roasted coffee here. Try out my favorite brand from this coffee shop - “NIGHTHAWK,” which is made up of Brazilian (60%) and Costa Rican (40%) beans.

5. CupCup Coffee

The elegant and stylish snow-white coffee house is located about a 40-minute walk from Baku Boulevard. If you appreciate long walks, then you can take your coffee with you and walk along the windy promenade, admiring the city lights. If not, then you can always enjoy the modern and very pleasing design of the coffee shop.

In the coffee shop, you can order any coffee of your choice. They also roast their beans, so this is another reason to try their coffee. I love buying special blends here, and most have amazing aromas and some even have a tart taste. If you want something besides coffee, various lemonades are also sold here. Just know that they are usually very rich and sweet, so I would say that they are not for everyone.

CupCup Coffee also has the best croissants in the city and you should definitely try one. Feel free to take the almond-seasoned one, which is very sweet, rich, fresh, and not the same as everywhere else. If you don’t like croissants, then you’ll appreciate the aesthetic cakes sold here. By the way, there are a lot of foreigners who often visit here, so while you enjoy your coffee you can even meet someone new.

6. Gloria Jean's Coffee

Gloria Jean’s Coffee is a chain of coffee shops in Baku similar to Starbucks. Although there is Starbucks in Baku too, locals still prefer to spend their time at Gloria Jean’s Coffees and I will tell you why. It is important to know that the main branch of this coffee shop is located near Baku Boulevard, but the best thing about it is that it is open almost until midnight. So even if you urgently want coffee at night, as I do, this place is sure to be your salvation.

The design of the coffee shop does not stand out as something out of the ordinary. It is very cozy here, the tables are ideally located, and you can even sit outside. The baristas here are the most sincere and pleasant people. They work very quickly, are friendly, and love to be friends with regular customers. You come in and immediately feel at home.

Gloria Jean’s Coffees will not be able to offer you specialty coffee but will be happy to serve you standard types of milk coffee, and, if necessary, add unique syrups. There is a very large selection of drinks and lemonades, and everything is very rich, sweet, and pretty. Therefore, if you like coffee drinks more than coffee itself, then this is the place for you. I love to take chilled sweet-and-sour lemonades here when it’s hot outside.

There is also a roastery where you can choose from roasted beans from Brazil, Guatemala, or Costa Rica.

If you like prefer tea, then you can indulge in pu'er, rooibos, and mate teas.
