Those interested in admiring some ancient rock art can head to Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape. Adventure lovers will also enjoy a holiday in this country as there are several opportunities for exciting outdoor activities. For example, you can go skiing at Shahdag Mountain Resort or Tufandag Mountain Resort.

You can choose either to relax or be active in these hotels and resorts. To know more, scroll down for the top hotels & resorts in Azerbaijan and enjoy your vacation!

1. Lankaran Spring Wellness Resort; Lankaran (from USD 88)

Lankaran

Lankaran is the place where the first tea plantation for Azerbaijani tea originated. It is also known for its citrus production and beautiful natural beauty. It would be a crime not to enjoy a holiday in this part of Azerbaijan, so Lankaran Spring Wellness Resort is on my list today.

Located 259 km (160.94 mi) from Baku, this 5-star hotel offers a wide range of services for relaxation and improving your overall health. The unusually shaped modern building includes a spa, swimming pools, and thermal baths, as well as several wellness programs. There is a kids’ club for your little ones to stay busy while you indulge in some pampering. Having been here, I advise you to completely devote time to relaxation and practice some yoga. You can also partake in fitness classes or play billiards to stay entertained.

The exquisitely designed rooms at this hotel exude an incredible atmosphere of warmth and comfort. In addition, each room is equipped with a TV, minibar, and ensuite bathroom. You can start your day here by enjoying a delicious breakfast, which is available with halal options, too.

For meals, I recommend you to visit the Sumakh restaurant. This is a chain of restaurants specializing in traditional Azerbaijani cuisine with an abundance of fresh and hearty ingredients. Gutab, a local flatbread with greens or meat sprinkled with pomegranate is my favorite!

2. Deluxe Park Qusar Resort & Spa Hotel; Qusar (from USD 65)

Qusar or Gusar is located in the northeastern part of Azerbaijan, about four-and-a-half hours from its border with Dagestan. This city is famous for its impeccable natural beauty and favorable climate, so both in summer and in winter, locals like to come here on vacation. If you also decide to visit this place, then I advise you to book a stay at Deluxe Park Qusar Resort & Spa Hotel.

This 4-star hotel is in an ideal location, affording guests mountain views and fresh air. Every time I come here, I keep admiring the views for hours. For visitors, there is an option to book either any available room or a full villa - a cozy abode amidst nature featuring multiple bedrooms. Families often go for these villas, but I usually book rooms to enjoy the privacy.

On the property, guests can use spa services to feel rejuvenated and relax in an indoor swimming pool. There’s a gym and a tennis court for those who love to stay active. For children, the hotel offers a large playground and a games room. You can try the fresh breakfast offered at the property or head to the cafes nearby.

3. Sakit Gol/ Silent Lake Hotel; Şamaxı (from USD 176)

The ancient Azerbaijani city of Shamakhi/Şamaxı is the birthplace of poets, philosophers, architects, and scientists. It features exquisite buildings and peaceful nature, located 122 km (76 mi) from Baku. It is one of my favorite cities showcasing a perfect combination of modernity and antiquity, and this is where Sakit Gol/ Silent Lake Hotel is located.

This 5-star resort features 27 elegantly furnished rooms and suites overlooking the lake. You will have access to a fitness center and a tennis court. I think the ideal way to spend time in this part of the country is by taking leisurely walks in the lush surroundings, fishing, or enjoying outdoor sports such as mountain climbing - and the resort will allow easy access to all these activities.

The property will also provide you with wireless internet in every room, along with a minibar, and TV. There’s a private balcony in the deluxe rooms where I enjoyed some fresh air. Enjoy both international and local delicacies at the various restaurants and bars: Nostalgie Restaurant, Golden Fish Restaurant, Atlantis Bar, and Safran Bar.

4. Marxal Resort & Spa; Sheki (from USD 77)

About 297 km (184.55 mi) from Baku, the city of Sheki is located in a wide valley surrounded by verdant mountains. The city is divided into a new (lower) and an old (upper) part. In this picturesque destination, you will find the 5-star Marxal Resort & Spa.

Tucked amidst mountains and lush greenery, graced by fresh air, and perched at an altitude of 1080 m (3543.31 ft), this resort allowed me to have a tranquil and refreshing holiday. The property comes with landscaped grounds and includes outdoor and indoor pools, a spa, and a sauna for relaxation. Entertainment facilities are provided too, including a bowling alley, laser strike, nightclub, and cinema. There are multiple restaurants on the property for you to choose from. Even business travelers will find convenience at the resort with access to conference rooms.

Despite featuring modern comforts and design elements, the resort exudes a traditional extravagance with Azerbaijani details in the form of carpets and ornaments. If you’re traveling with your family, choose to stay in a villa with comfortable bedrooms, a living and dining area, and a kitchenette. All rooms have a private bathroom for your convenience.

Silk Restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast to start the day, while Nuxa Restaurant offered delicious traditional dishes. Remember to try the Sheki baklava at Lake Cafe. It is very different from the classic Baku baklava and is worth your attention! In the evening, I suggest going to Pear Tea House for a cup of freshly brewed tea or going to the Lobby Bar for a cocktail.

5. Shahdag Hotel & Spa; Shahdag (from USD 111)

Shahdag hosts the largest ski resort in Azerbaijan, nestled at the foot of Mount Shahdag. If you’re planning a winter holiday in Azerbaijan, then I advise you to take a closer look at Shahdag Hotel & Spa.

This 4-star resort features a futuristic facade and is located right in the mountains of Shahdag. While here, you can take relaxing dips in a large indoor swimming pool or indulge in massages at a world-class spa. You may also have fun with activities such as paintball, shooting, zorbing, hiking, and of course, skiing. There are ski lifts nearby and the resort provides easy ski-in/ski-out access.

After enjoying the variety of activities, guests are offered a choice of multiple restaurants and bars to refuel themselves. You can savor a pizza at Slices by Elio or enjoy authentic Azerbaijani winter food in a restaurant of your choice. Before going to bed, try some fresh, hot Azerbaijani tea at the Badam cafe. Alternatively, I recommend heading to Xezine Bar and Rahat Bar for cocktails. Later, rest in a classically furnished room that includes a TV, minibar, and a safety deposit box. Some rooms also have a balcony to enjoy the snow-covered views of the local mountains.

6. Macara Village Resort; Quba (from USD 117)

Macara Village Resort is located in the city of Guba/Quba, at a distance of about 168 km (104.39 mi) from Baku. In this city, you can spend time pampering yourself in spas using natural elements to promote overall well-being. One such spa can be found in Macara Village Resort, which is tucked amidst a serene green landscape.

The resort lets visitors spend time playing darts or table tennis or enjoying some fishing. I love that you can hang out by the indoor swimming pool or relax in a gazebo by the lake while savoring the tranquil surroundings. There is also a hot tub and sauna on the property, and the spa offers several beauty services and wellness packages. The resort is equipped with a playground where children have fun.

Have a wonderful stay in Azerbaijan

As you can see, all the accommodations on the list afford guests stunning views of untouched nature, opportunities for outdoor activities, as well as access to wellness amenities. These cities are a bit far from the capital city of Baku. Therefore, I advise you to rent a car to move freely across all locations. As an alternative, you can also use a taxi, since in Azerbaijan, it is quite a budget-friendly option.

To ensure a wonderful stay in the country, refer to this list and pick your favorite accommodation!
