Tokyo continues to be one of the biggest tourist destinations in the entire world. Even those who have never been to Asia, or Japan for that matter, can probably still name some quintessential Tokyo attractions. Tokyo is a vibrant mix of things new and old: from the traditions to the architecture, you’ll find plenty of everyday things that combine the two. Japanese food is enjoyed all throughout the world, but one of the dishes that combine the Japanese view of mixing the old and new is shabu-shabu. Although only making its way to Japan in the 20th century, shabu-shabu is similar to a Chinese-style hot pot, where food is cooked piece by piece at the table. If you’re in the city, check out some of these listed shabu-shabu restaurants in Tokyo.

1. Zakuro Ginza

Located in the Ginza neighborhood of Tokyo, Zakuro Ginza is arguably one of the best spots for shabu-shabu that even many locals don’t know about. Zakuro Ginza is one of those places that might be easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

The Ginza area is a generally high-end shopping district, but the shabu-shabu here is affordable and the beef is savory and delicious. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the pot is cooked over charcoal instead of gas.
