Japan is one of the ideal destinations in the world because of its local cuisine, rich culture and their appreciation for art. The Japanese food scene is incredibly prominent in or out of the country, and aside from the obvious food-trips of famous ramens, sushi, and tempuras, Tokyo’s coffee scene is also something everyone should get a taste of. After all the walking and sightseeing, it is nice to just relax and unwind with a cup of coffee in hand. Coffee is not just any beverage, it is an experience and you will definitely encounter some crazy and unusually themed restaurants here in Tokyo. Forget about your commoner coffee shops and sip locally and internationally brewed coffees in these 10 cafes in Tokyo while you take a break from wandering around town.

Watch and observe hundreds of people leading to different paths at the busiest intersection in Tokyo over a French dessert and tea at L’Occitane Cafe. Situated at Shibuya station, L’Occitane Cafe is a quiet haven against the bustling Shibuya crossing. Although L’Occitane is known for its body and face cosmetics, they are slowly getting recognised for their savoury French meals and desserts too. The shop has three floors, the first floor is their retail shop while the cafe occupies the rest of the floors. Designed with orange-themed interiors and surrounded by pot plants, it is definitely an Instagram-worthy cafe. With their wide variety of menu, you can pick from their dessert platters, creme brulee, croque monsieur or even niçoise salad. If you’re looking for a French meal, pastry, or coffee in Japan, this the perfect place to get your cravings fixed.

One of the most famous coffee shops in Tokyo is owned by the latte art champion, Hiroshi Sawada. The place is just like any normal cafes but this particular coffee house is constantly jam-packed with customers, which shows how good the coffee is. It's one of my favourite coffee shops in Tokyo! It's a back street of Harajuku in a quiet area with a bit of hip star atmosphere. They sell not only coffee but also delicious donuts which I recommend to try!

Coffee and gelato in a cup, it’s the best of both worlds. You’d never think that the mixture of bitter coffee and sweet gelato would be a great pair. Upon walking into the store, you will be welcomed by a range of gelato flavours and colours. Floto serves great tasting coffee float or their affogato with your choice of gelato. Floto’s coffee beans are sourced from the well known Aalto Coffee and the Rooster in Tokushima. For their gelatos, they have all the classic flavours such as chocolate, caramel, and fruity flavours like peach, kiwi, and the fragrant Japanese beni hoppe strawberry.

10. Kawaii Monster Cafe

Harajuku is known for its oddly and offbeat fashion culture making Kawaii Monster Cafe fit into the vibe of this area. Just like Harajuku, this cafe is vibrant, loud, wacky, and out of this world - it is nothing like any normal cafes so you’ll be in awe if you step foot in here. There are four dining areas that offer very different themes namely, The Mushroom Disco, The Milk Stand, Bar Experiment and Mel-Tea Room. This cafe offers a wild experience, however, the menu is limited and weird-looking like the Colourful Rainbow Pasta, Colourful Poised Cak, and Colourful Poison Parfait. Nevertheless, this cafe is still a must-visit for a one of a kind dining experience.
